Crosby Returns

After almost a year of being sidelined from a concussion, Sidney Crosby will return to the lineup for the Penguins’ game on Monday night.

I certainly do not like the Penguins or Crosby, but as I’ve stated before, I like the game of hockey much more than I dislike any particular team and/or player.

Welcome back.

Tonight it was just an ass-kicking every which way

Hockey is Family

The Caps and Penguins are teaming up to help the families of the Lokomotiv tragedy.

There are heated moments. There are rivalries. But hockey is family.

It just shows how strong this team is. They literally won today without goaltending.

No time for superfluous metaphors or waxing poetic.

Rock the RED. Beat that beat up.

Time for the regular season.

Here. We. Go.

Another Day, Another Shanahan Ban-Hammer

Clarke MacArthur, of the Maple Leafs, was suspended today by Brendan Shanahan for an illegal hit to the head of Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader. MacArthur is suspended 3 games (1 preseason and 2 regular season games), and will forfeit $35,135.14 in salary, all of which goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

I think you could pretty much form an entire team now with the amount of players that have been suspended in the preseason. We might have to have an entirely separate league comprised entirely of suspended players if the leagues fails eventually figure out that Shanahan is not going to be taken lightly.

Seriously, NHL, Shanahan is not messing around. Stop it.

Dear NHL, Shanahan Is Not Joking

Brendan Shanahan needs to send a letter out to all the NHL teams before the regular season detailing the veritable plethora of suspensions and subsequent forfeitures of salary he has levied against players. The letter should start “In the event you that I was kidding…” and then list the number of players suspended, the number games not played due to the aforementioned suspensions, and total salary these players forfeited.

And if the league hasn’t got the “s*** is actually going to be enforced” message already, Shanahan dropped another suspension on a player (complete with the accompanying lost salary) which of course will go to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. Brendan Smith of the Red Wings has been suspended for 8 games (3 preseason and 5 regular season) and will forfeit $23,648.65 in salary. He illegally hit Ben Smith, a Blackhawks forward, in the head during a preseason game, injuring him as a result of the play. Brendan Smith was assessed a match penalty.

Seriously people, Shanahan is not kidding around.
